Rediscovering Your Dreams: A Physician Mom's Guide to Intentional Living

July 24, 2024

What do you want?

This is a question that might make you pause. We are experts at juggling careers, families, and countless responsibilities, but in the whirlwind of our daily lives, have we lost sight of our own dreams?

The Power of Dreaming

When was the last time you allowed yourself to dream big? Not just about tomorrow's to-do list or next week's schedule, but about your life 5 or 10 years from now? It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind, but without a clear vision, we risk floating through life on autopilot.

Dreaming isn't just a luxury - it's a necessity for intentional living and personal growth. It gives us direction, purpose, and a renewed sense of excitement about our future.

Finding Time in a Busy Life

I know what you're thinking: "I barely have time to breathe, let alone dream!" Trust me, I get it. As physician moms, our time is precious and often not our own. But that's exactly why carving out moments for yourself is crucial.

Even small pockets of time can make a big difference. Here are practical ways to create thinking time:

  • Taking a solo 10-minute walk

  • Claiming some quiet time after the kids are in bed

  • Turning your commute into a mini brainstorming session

  • Even using laundry time as reflection time (though I have some thoughts on that!)

The key is to make it a priority.

The Joy of Possibility

There's something magical that happens when we give ourselves permission to dream without limits. I've seen it firsthand with my clients - the spark in their eyes when they reconnect with long-forgotten passions or envision a future they never thought possible.

One client told me that just thinking about her dream life brought her more joy than she'd felt in weeks. Imagine what could happen if you gave yourself that same gift.

Your Challenge

I challenge you to make time this week to dream. Don't worry about how to make it happen yet - just let your imagination run wild. Ask yourself:

  • What would my ideal day look like?

  • If money and time weren't obstacles, what would I do?

  • What talents or passions have I neglected?

  • How do I want to impact the world?

You deserve to pursue your dreams, both as a physician and as a woman. Let's reclaim our visions, one intentional thought at a time. You've got this, doc!
